Campsites We Love Near Prince George
Are you ready for camping season? We are. Last year, we had a bit of a rough go getting our groove, beating the smoke, and tackling the kids. But this year, we feel we got this down pat and can’t wait to take the kids out on the next adventure.
We’ve seen you wondering about nearby campsites and pulled up a few of our favourite camp grounds near Prince George. These campsites offer things kids and families love. They are places we would take our families and can’t wait to go again. We would love you to tell us about your favourite camp grounds in the comments below and let us know why they rock.
Parent groups were an integral part of my journey as a new mom - I met some of the most amazing people there who supported me through some challenging times. It was incredibly awkward and overwhelming to meet new people, but keep showing up - it gets better with every visit.
Favourite Prince George Campgrounds
Purden Lake
Purden Lake Provincial Park is a BC Parks operated site located 65km from Prince George (45 minute drive).
This campground features a new playground that is just perfect for busy kids who need more than a campfire to stay entertained.
The downside of Purden Lake is it’s a good 10 minute walk to the beach for swimming adventures (though you can drive as there is a public parking lot at the beach for day visits).

Bear Lake
Officially known as Crooked River Provincial Park is a BC Parks site located 75 km (one hour drive) north of Prince George.
This lake has an amazing sandy public beach that is great for day visits. It also has a quaint camp ground with sites near the water, playgrounds, and hiking trails. We only stayed here one night, but can’t wait to go back. This is a fan favourite for families around the region for it's accessibility, cell-phone coverage, and lake swimming.

Ten Mile Lake:
The campground and resort at Lazy Daze Resort is a favourite amongst our friends. This family-friendly, pet friendly campground features some of the best lake shore on the lake. This is a private campground and it’s located 112 km from Prince George (about an hour and 15 minute drive).
Salmon Valley:
There is a small privately owned campground in the heart of the Salmon Valley just 27km (23 minutes) North of Prince George. The Salmon Valley Campground books up fast because of stunning location, river-side fun, and just amazing-ness.
Further from town
If you're okay with traveling 1-2 hours, here's a few more campsites a little further from Prince George that your family may enjoy.
- Stuart Lake - Paarens Beach
- Fraser Lake - Beaumont Park
- Barkerville - Wells - Bowron Lakes
- Carp Lake
Don't forget to be prepared!
You don't need much to go camping, but you do need a few things. We recommend a bottle of Care Plus Bug Repellant, Jan & Jul Sun Hats, and a swim suit (of course). Visit us at Pine Centre Mall to prepare for your local camping trip.
